Welcome to God's Toolbox The Bible. Today's topic is multitasking. Yes, you know, trying to do more than one thing at a time. But here's the thing. It has been proven that we literally cannot do many things at the same time. And in fact, trying to do several complex tasks at the same time leads to brain drain, mental fatigue, memory issues, and poor cognitive function. We simply weren't wired to do all of the things that we're trying to do, especially not in the way that we're attempting to do them, which is all together. So what does the Bible say about this? Let's look at the story of Jesus' friends, those sisters, Mary and Martha. In Luke ten it says that Jesus was invited into the house of the sisters and Martha was busy trying to get everything ready to serve Jesus and his disciples. While she was busy making all of the preparations and doing all of the work, her sister Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet, listening to his teaching, taking in his every word. Now, if I can be completely honest, I would be just as upset with that as Martha was. She was so upset that she approached Jesus and said to him, Lord, don't you care that Mary has left me to do all of this work by myself? Tell her to help me. But guess what? Instead of fussing at Mary, Jesus actually schooled Martha. He told her that she was trying to do too many things, that her mind was too scattered, causing her to be worried and troubled. Wow. Does that sound to you like she had been multitasking? Yes, it sounds like it to me too. I suppose she wanted to make sure that everything was just right for Jesus, that the food tasted just right, that it was served in the best dishes, that the seating was proper, and the decorum was perfect. She was concerned about looking good on the outside with all of the embellishments and etiquette of her accommodations, but with no concern for her own spiritual condition, Jesus said to Martha Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. Did you hear that? Jesus said that one thing is needed, not a myriad of things, not this and that, but one thing. And Mary has realized that one thing is the main thing and she is keeping the main thing the main thing. Matthew six and thirty three says to seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all of these other things will be added. Focus first on your relationship with Jesus. Be, then do. Be who Jesus is telling you to be. Work on your inward parts, your heart, mind and soul. Keep them focused on God. Psalm forty six and ten says Be still and know that I am God. Be still, not run around trying to do all of these things, but stop. Calm down. Sit at Jesus' feet. That part. Are you worried and upset about many things? Could this be happening because you are doing too much? Today, lay those burdens down. Cast all your cares on Jesus. Choose the good part. Be merry in a Martha world. God bless you.
