Welcome to God's Toolbox The Bible. Today's lesson is about your divided heart. Yes, when you attempt to love and serve more than one. Now I know that sounds scandalous, but I believe it is more common than we realize. What does the Bible say regarding honoring more than one? Matthew six and twenty four says this No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. Matthew four and ten says Then Jesus said to him Away with you, Satan, for it is written you shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve. So the consensus from the point of view of the Bible is that you cannot have a divided heart, that it is not possible. And when it comes to God, listen to Exodus thirty four fourteen, which warns us for you shall worship no other God, for the Lord whose name is jealous is a jealous God. Now understanding the concept of worship is paramount here because when we just talk about love, we can get into the weeds. Yes, we are to love God with all our heart, mind and soul, but we are to love our neighbor as well. So that's not the divided heart we're talking about. We're talking about a heart that not only loves but worships. As children of God our worship should only be for Him. As the song says, My hallelujah belongs to you, to God alone, because He deserves it. But when we start serving other things or people, worshiping them, considering them above God, then that is the divided heart we're referring to. Think of it like this. Before you make a big purchase, do you consider how it glorifies God and will be useful to the kingdom of God? Or do you simply think of yourself and the needs of your family? When you set up your household budget, do you calculate your tithe first? Or do you give God your leftovers? When you get that promotion, big raise, that win win you've been praying for, do you stop to thank God first before celebrating with others? Or do you leave God out of the celebration altogether? When trouble comes, do you go first to the doctor, lawyer, banker, pastor, or first to God and allow Him to direct your path? Do you see my point? A divided heart is one that says it loves God, but on all the levels that count, God is more of an afterthought than the one you love, serve, and worship. Again, no one can serve two masters.
